North Sails, Rob Wilson was acknowledged in the Sports Coach UK ‘Coaching Hall of Fame’ at a glittering celebration of coaching at the ceremony which was held at The Lancaster Hotel in London. This was due to the Gold medal success of Helena Lucas at the London 2012 Paralympics, and his coaching of the Extreme 40’s, with both boats currently in the top two positions in the series.

David Howlett, aka Sid, was also acknowledged in the ‘Coaching Hall of Fame’. Due to Sid’s wealth of experience he was also shortlisted for the Performance Coach of the Year, after having input into a plethora of Gold medals since 1992; in the Star Class, then technical input in the Europe program, direct coaching input into Iain Percy and Andrew Simpsons Star medal and Ben Ainslie’s record beating gold in London 2012! Unfortunately this was one title that Sid did not win as Toni Minichiello; Jessica Ennis’s coach took the well-deserved honour.

Rob Wilson commented, ‘My money is on Sid winning Performance Coach of the Year in 2016! For me it’s a great honour to get the recognition at this prestigious event. I’m part of wider team that all deserve huge praise. There are individuals such as Fuzz, Ian Barker and Ben Chell that have all had a huge impact helping Helena win her medal this summer. There is also the wider support team that all help to make the events run smoothly, Libby on the Met side, Lindsey working with the press, Sparky’s management, Simon working on the boats, the physiology team (too many to mention!), the team in the office, and of course North Sails who built some great sails and gave me the time to really focus on the Games.’
