The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club has always had an active Dragon class and this year the Championship was sailed in the bay of Shelter Cove.
At this time of year, weather conditions are very light and all races were sailed in 6 – 10 knots of wind. A total of 12 boats on the start line sailed 11 races in this series.
It was already clear after the first couple of races that the Championship title would be between HKG37, Karl Grebstad and HKG50, Phyllis Chang. HGK 50 has just been supplied with new North sails for the Championship. It was HKG50 who performed the best in the end and won the title with a comfortable and convincing series.
It is the second time this year that the sail selection of the A7+ Mainsail, MJ-8 Genoa, MJ-8H Genoa and the new CX Spinnaker has won a National Championship.
Phyllis Chang said, "Our boat had very good speed so we could sail conservatively, and without any big mistakes we were able to win the Championship. Our rig settings were 13 on the uppers and 6 on the lowers with a mast rake at 1,19m, this loose setting was excellent in the light stuff".
We at NORTH SAILS wish Phyllis Chang and crew congratulations in winning the Hong Kong Championship!
